Little Miami Safety Improvements Will Close Portions of Trail Next Week

State Parks, Friends’ Group partnership funds bridge paving project

CORWIN, OH – Improvements for the safety of bicyclists and hikers who use the Little Miami

State Park trail will close portions of the trail next week. The safety improvements are being

funded by a partnership between the Friends of Little Miami State Park and Ohio State Parks.

Trail improvement construction will take place beginning Monday, June 1 between Hedges

Road and the village of Morrow (mile markers 3.0 and 26.0). Work is expected to take place

throughout the week and be completed by Friday, June 5.

The contractor plans to begin work at the north end of this portion of the trail and work

southward. The bridge surfaces will be prepped and the asphalt on each side of the bridges cut

out to ensure smooth transition with the new asphalt surface.

Eleven of the trail’s fifteen wood deck bridges will be paved during this project. The wooden

planking on these bridges becomes dangerous resulting in spills when they become wet. Many

are in shaded sections of the trail and are damp much of the time. The bridges will be paved

with asphalt which sheds water much more effectively.

Advisory signs have been placed on the trail this week informing trail users of the closures.

The improvement and safety project is being funded by a partnership between the Friends of

the Little Miami State Park, a private non-profit group formed in the last several months, and

Ohio State Parks. The friends’ group is made up of users of the trail, business owners located

along the trail and citizens interested in the betterment of the trail.

Welcome to the Corwin Peddler!  The Copple Family bought the business in August 2006 because they had always wanted to have an Ice cream shop on the bike trail.  It’s a long story but if you have time…….

Ann and Rachael were away on a Girl Scout adventure, Ty was on a school trip and Simeon had a free moment.  He went for a bike ride, thinking that he would stop and get an ice cream from the Peddler.  Well unfortunately it was closed, and for sale.  As we told you before, we had always wanted an Ice cream shop, so while the rest of the family was away, Simeon got the ball rolling and we bought the place.

Opening the Ice Cream shop on October 1st 2006, we were very encouraged by the kind reception by the users of the Bike trail.  Wanting to expand the services we could offer, we decided to refurbish the building, and add a kitchen so that we could provide healthy food for the cyclists. This meant closing at the end of the season in November and through a long process, we re-opened on June 15th 2007, with a menu featuring English favorites, unusual sandwiches, and Ann’s famous homemade desserts.

As you can see, we are very pleased with the refit and are enjoying meeting all our new friends in Corwin.  We are looking forward to many years at the Corwin Peddler.
